A special mention must go to Radical Team Melbourne for their great effort at Morgan Park. With a 4th position in the main race on Sunday, and 8th overall for the year the guys have done a great job.

Entry Accepted

Looks like my entry to Legend of the Lakes has been accepted.

Now to gear up with a few bits and pieces so I can run the car on the weekend… should be fun!

Time to Hill Climb!

Entry has just been submitted for the Legend of the Lakes Hill Climb held in the rural town of Mt Gambia, South Australia. Fingers crossed entry will be accepted (though I think the car may need headlights to comply). Looks like fun!

Here’s a nice video from last years event:

How it should be done

Great video of Michael Shaw, a new Radical owner from NSW, showing some deft driving skill in the wet at Round 5 of the Radical NSW Clubman Cup round at Eastern Creek.

Winton Test 31/05/2011

Greg Murphy Racing and Radical Australia invited Rob Baird, owner of Radical Team Melbourne, and myself out to a test day they were conducting at Winton Raceway here in Victoria being conducted on the 31st of May. They had hired the track for the handover of a V8 Supercar and we were lucky enough to tag along to get some really good sessions in.

Nice morning at the track.

The track is a beautiful place when you have it almost to yourself.Dale Thomas after taking the RS for a spin... just a lazy 1:23.9 on his first outing...

Initial testing proved promising, and without the added pressure of a track that I’m not familiar with I was really having a blast. The car was handling well enough, but was suffering from low speed understeer and a tendency to lock brakes. At the time we were unsure if the understeer was due to alignment or perhaps a lack of front dive planes. I also thought the lock ups were due to some flat spots sustained at Eastern Creek, but it turns out there was an issue with the springs in the car that was affecting braking and handling. This is being rectified by GMR now so hopefully it will be feeling a lot better next time.
Despite that issue the day was fantastic. Lots of time to shake down the car with a very relaxed atmosphere. The weather was spot on, with a very cold morning but bright, clear skies and a nice sunny afternoon. The track was a bit off in the mid afternoon, but still great fun. The best track day I’ve ever been to by a long shot.

A few vids from the day:

The car is now back with GMR and is getting a few bits of prep work done to ensure everything is up to scratch

Radical Australia Cup: Round 2

Few pics from the Radical Australia cup round held over the weekend of the 28/29th May 2011. The weather was making proceedings for the cometitors very difficult on Saturday, but Sunday morning saw some great racing.

Successful Day at EC

I made my way up to Sydney for my last Eastern Creek day (for a while at least), and despite looking as if it was going to be another wet day for me, making it 3 for 3, the rain held off and we had nothing but dry sessions.

The track was a bit slippery as it was quite cold, but despite a few locked tyres no dramas were had and the car ran faultlessly. I didn’t have a timing system in the car so unsure of exactly what times I was pulling, but during the last three sessions I really felt as if I ‘gelled’ with the car and could feel the aero working for me. The amount of grip that can be generated with some warm tyres and aero is awesome!

Anyways, here are a few snaps I took on the day.

Car is now on a transporter and heading to Melbourne. The Phillip Island round of the National series is on this weekend, should be a great watch!

Into the wall at 160km/h…

Not me!

This was at the Radical Masters at Spa a week ago. Driver walked away from the accident which is a testament to just how safe these cars are.
